THE HERESY OF RELIGIOUS PLURALISM

Once again Jorge Bergoglio (Pope Francis) has done the idiotic. He has signed a statement with Muslim clerics during his visit to the United Arab Emirates which asserts in part the following:

“Freedom is a right of every person: each individual enjoys the freedom of belief, thought, expression and action. The pluralism and the diversity of religions, color, sex, race and language are willed by God in His wisdom, through which He created human beings. This divine wisdom is the source from which the right to freedom of belief and the freedom to be different derives. Therefore, the fact that people are forced to adhere to a certain religion or culture must be rejected, as too the imposition of a cultural way of life that others do not accept….”

Father Zuhlsdorf at his blog tries to put a positive spin on this by saying that there is God’s perfect will of one and only one Faith in Christ Jesus, and God’s permissive will wherein people have freedom to choose what faith to believe. Father’s effort is admirable. But this episode is merely a continuation of all the other nonsense that has come out from Jorge Bergoglio’s horrible Pontificate.

Father Hunwickie in the United Kingdom discusses this whole issue at his blog, Mutual Enlightenment, where he quotes what Blessed John Henry Newman said in the 19th century:

"For thirty, forty, fifty years I have resisted to the best of my powers the spirit of liberalism in religion. Never did Holy Church need champions against it more sorely than now, when, alas! it is an error overspreading, as a snare, the whole earth ... Liberalism in religion is the doctrine that there is no positive truth in religion, but that one creed is as good as another, and this is the teaching which is gaining substance and force daily. It is inconsistent with any recognition of any religion, as true. It teaches that all are to be tolerated, for all are matters of opinion, [that] revealed religion is not a truth, but a sentiment and a taste; not an objective fact, not miraculous; and [that] it is the right of each individual to make it say just what strikes his fancy."

There are some things we authentic Christians need to grasp, whether we are Catholic, Protestant or Eastern Orthodox:

(1) The ONLY true religion is the Christian one, and yes, it is a religion – a binding together in Christ as the original Latin word (religare = to bind) means.
(2) Islam and all the rest of the world’s religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, Shintoism, etc. are false.
(3) God wants everyone to come to the saving knowledge of the truth; He does NOT will false belief.

St. Paul addressed this whole issue in his sermon on the Aeropagus in Athens as Acts 17:22-31 records:

22 So Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects. 23 For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you. 24 The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; 25 nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; 26 and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, 27 that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’ 29 Being then the children of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and thought of man. 30 Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, 31 because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead.”

Now some people in a fit of misunderstanding will say that the Pope is supposed to be infallible, so how can this happen? Vatican Council I back in the late 1800s addresses this as follows:

“For the Holy Spirit was promised to the successors of Peter not so that they might, by his revelation, make known some new doctrine, but that, by his assistance, they might religiously guard and faithfully expound the revelation or deposit of faith transmitted by the apostles.”

Pope Francis for the entirety of his Pontificate has been shooting off his mouth about stuff in which he has no expertise, no knowledge and certainly no charism (or gift) (e.g., climate change, economics, gun control, immigration, etc.). A great deal of what he has said and done has been contrary to Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. Therefore, what Vatican Council I states more than 100 years ago applies: he is NOT infallible (just the opposite in fact) when he contradicts Sacred Scripture and 2000 years of Judeo-Christian Tradition. I do not base what I just said merely on my own interpretation of Sacred Scripture contrary to what 2nd Peter 1:20-21 states:

20 First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 because no prophecy ever came by the impulse of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Rather, I base it on the continuous Tradition of Holy Mother Church from the early Church Fathers in the first four centuries after Christ. Do we for a second imagine that St. Ignatius of Antioch (the man who was taught by St. John the Apostle) believed in the legitimacy of a plurality and diversity of religions when he refused to offer incense to Caesar and Caesar’s gods and goddesses, preferring instead to be eaten by lions in the Coliseum? He even said, “I am the wheat of God and am ground by the teeth of the wild beasts, that I may be found the pure bread of Christ.” Would that man say as Pope Francis did, “The pluralism and the diversity of religions, color, sex, race and language are willed by God in His wisdom?” I think NOT!

Pray for Pope Francis, that the Holy Spirit will take the baseball bat of common sense and hit him straight across the head with it so he’ll wake up and fly straight.

Dr. Kurland at the American Catholic blog has a great post entitled:

“They made me a keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have not kept.”

He quotes from today's office of readings in the Liturgy of the Hours. That citation - from a homily by Pope St Gregory the Great on the performance of the ministry - while written some 1400 years ago is so appropriate to the condition and state of the Church in these post modern, neo-pagan times:

Let us listen to what the Lord says as he sends the preachers forth: The harvest is great but the labourers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into his harvest. We can speak only with a heavy heart of so few labourers for such a great harvest, for although there are many to hear the good news there are only a few to preach it. Look about you and see how full the world is of priests, yet in God’s harvest a labourer is rarely to be found; for although we have accepted the priestly office, we do not fulfill its demands.

Beloved brothers, consider what has been said: Pray the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into his harvest. Pray for us so that we may have the strength to work on your behalf, that our tongue may not grow weary of exhortation, and that after we have accepted the office of preaching, our silence may not condemn us before the just judge. For frequently the preacher’s tongue is bound fast on account of his own wickedness; while on the other hand it sometimes happens that because of the people’s sins, the word of preaching is withdrawn from those who preside over the assembly.

With reference to the wickedness of the preacher, the psalmist says: But God asks the sinner: Why do you recite my commandments? And with reference to the latter, the Lord tells Ezekiel: I will make your tongue cleave to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be dumb and unable to reprove them, for they are a rebellious house. He clearly means this: the word of preaching will be taken away from you because as long as this people irritates me by their deeds, they are unworthy to hear the exhortation of truth. It is not easy to know for whose sinfulness the preacher’s word is withheld, but it is indisputable that the shepherd’s silence while often injurious to himself will always harm his flock.

There is something else about the life of the shepherds, dearest brothers, which discourages me greatly. But lest what I claim should seem unjust to anyone, I accuse myself of the very same thing, although I fall into it unwillingly – compelled by the urgency of these barbarous times. I speak of our absorption in external affairs; we accept the duties of office, but by our actions we show that we are attentive to other things. We abandon the ministry of preaching and, in my opinion, are called bishops to our detriment, for we retain the honourable office but fail to practise the virtues proper to it. Those who have been entrusted to us abandon God, and we are silent. They fall into sin, and we do not extend a hand of rebuke.

But how can we who neglect ourselves be able to correct someone else? We are wrapped up in worldly concerns, and the more we devote ourselves to external things, the more insensitive we become in spirit.

For this reason the Church rightfully says about her own feeble members: They made me keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have not kept. We are set to guard the vineyards but do not guard our own, for we get involved in irrelevant pursuits and neglect the performance of our ministry.

The situation has become dire. If liberals are not removed from power in State and Church, then a great persecution of Christians everywhere will arise. And sadly yes, Pope Francis has fomented and promoted heresy, and has aided, abetted and protected sodomite clerics. Therefore, he and his sodomite clerics must be deposed and anathematized from the Episcopate just as Democrats must be eradicated from the halls of political power. And it is no small wonder that the USCCB fully supports the DNC.

BTW, one last thing: if you screw up in theology and embrace heresy in your doctrine, then your morality will be equally screwed up. That's exactly what we see with Jorge Bergoglio's heresies and embrace of sodomite clerics.

Nevertheless, it was written in response to a post by Dr. Bob Kurland entitled, "PopeWatch: Pope Francis Wants to Change 'The Lord’s Prayer.'"Here is the essential text of my response:

“The phrase ‘do not let us fall into temptation,’ which the Catholic Church in France has previously decided to use, would be a more appropriate alternative, Francis said.”

My little research is consistent with what another commenter pointed out (who may correct me if I err). Neither the Greek nor the Latin says, “Do not let us fall into temptation.” Analysis is below.

President Barack Hussein Obama has succeeded during his term in office of creating and exacerbating harmful divisions within our Republic that no President before him has done. His deference to Islam, his promotion of sterile sexual filth, his criticism of local constabularies, and his inciting of racial hatreds have all created a dangerous atmosphere of antagonism and distrust. If during the next Presidential election a Republican is elected, few if any Democrats will tolerate it for it will mean the end of the promotion of sodomy and lesbianism, and government financing of the infanticide of the unborn. And likewise if a Democrat is elected; Conservative Republicans are at the end of their patience in being ridiculed, marginalized and misrepresented in the popular media.

In the same fashion Jorge Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, has succeeded during his occupancy of the Sedes Petri in exacerbating the divide between traditional conservative orthodox Catholics and liberal progressives who want to normalize the adultery of second civil marriages and both sodomy and lesbianism. Time and again Pope Francis has ranted against doctors of the law who insist on conformity tot he clear commands of Christ in Sacred Scripture. These rants are little different in tenor and tone than those which President Obama issues against conservative Republicans. And just as Democrats and Republicans can no longer tolerate each other, so also can traditional conservative orthodox Catholics and liberal progressives no longer tolerate each other.

Concerning these things the words of Jesus in Matthew 10:34-39 are quite clear:

"Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s foes will be those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it."

Yes, we should and must pray for both our Pope and our President. But at the same time, as Jesus said in Matthew 10:16:

"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves."

Today’s Latin Lesson is NOT in how to translate the words, but in recognizing how applicable to today’s situation is something written around AD 1150 (865 years ago). This is from Decretum Gratiani (the Doctrine of Gratian). Gratian (Franciscus Gratianus – oh, the irony of his first name!) was a canon lawyer from Bologna, Italy in the 12th century. He has been acclaimed as  Pater Juris Canonici or Father of Canon Law. The text below is another example of why we should read what the early and medieval Church Fathers and Doctors wrote, for there is nothing new under the sun and if we forget history, then we are doomed to repeat it.
